It's also the point where we dust off the scanner and poke fun at old CVG editors who couldn't predict the future.
This week we report on rumours surrounding the supposed four Nintendo and Sega consoles due after Christmas 1994, and review enough games to fill a year's worth of Official Xbox 360 Magazine. Sorry about Rise of the Robots.
Right: The cover for the September 1994 issue of CVG, illustrated by Sebastian Quigley. Is there a marine more timeless than the Doom dude?
With the UK launch of the Sega Saturn still unconfirmed, the house of Sonic's looking to stop-gap the generation with the launch of the 32-X add-on for the Mega Drive at Christmas - and according to CVG sources Nintendo's looking to jump in too.
"The Japanese giant is allegedly planning a 32-bit upgrade cartridge for the Super Nintendo, very much along the lines of the 32-X. Unlike the 32-X it's likely to have just one processor," CVG writes, "but thanks to custom architecture it will be at least as powerful."
CVG expects the add-on will "really throw the cat among the pigeons with Sega," and erm, it also cites "sources close to Nintendo" revealing that the Ultra 64 - first revealed as a cartridge-based console - will actually use a CD medium. You can't get 'em all right...
Toy Boy: Nintendos's VR-32 battery-powered virtual reality console looks like it could make it to the UK. Apparently it'll no longer come with a headset, instead it might use goggles with the images appearing on the lenses.
Mortal Sell Out: In its first week alone the Acclaim-published fighter pulled in over ?30 million in sales - a new record. Sceptics argue this is proof the gaming public are getting very bored of Street Fighter's 7 million different versions.
