Ouya moves into development phase

Ouya has moved out of the design phase and into development.

Ouya Screenshot In a progress update outlined on the Ouya blog, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman said the company's now in the Engineering Verification Testing phase, and that it expects to have developer kits ready by December.

She also said that Ouya will run on Jelly Bean, the newest version of the Android operating system. "We're making the jump from the old version, Ice Cream Sandwich, to ensure that we're running on the most up-to-date software available."

Over 63,000 people backed the upcoming console through crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, pledging $8.6 million to the project. Ouya is expected to hit shelves in March 2013.
